Hello

I am looking to buy a tea set for a friend as a gift. Wondering what are the attributes I should look for while I make this purchase. What are the price ranges like and what would be a good place to look for this purchase. I stay in Chennai...

if you could goto a crockery shop like Currimboys in Adyar, you can choose from various designs and price ranges. optionally you could goto City centre or other shopping malls to pick them up.

I have purchased tea sets consisting of 6 cups and 6 saucers. The make was La Opal (Opala, not sure) and the price was around 600 rupees or so. Make sure it is microwave compatible.

Thanks for the info Vivek. It's helpful.

But not sure why it should be microwave compatible. I don't put my tea set in the micro wave. Are there occassions when people do so..

Most of us in India (I should probably not generalise) do not use Microwaves. Infact most of us don't even use tea sets Cheesy . We use those Archies mugs we keep getting for every birthday. (Or is that a fad thats done with now ?)

Tea sets made of china (or made in china Wink )shouldn't be all that expensive. It also depends on where you buy it. I think you will get ripped if you buy it in places like Landmark and City Centre. If you have the money though, not an issue. Also in my experience I have noticed that when buying in places like Landmark, the prices of branded goods is almost the same as anywhere else. Corelle or something like that for instance. It is with the cheaper unheard-of-brands that you get ripped...

thank you for this information. One question. Is tupperware microwave proof? Doesnt it get softened? People should be careful. Not all tupperware imitations are microwave proof though. Cheap plastic containers should not be used as there is a risk of cancer. The plastic can melt and get into the food.

The samsung guy who gave a demo showed a technique for boiling 1 -2 potatoes. Wash the potato, tie it up in a small plastic carry bag and put it in. HIgh for 1 -2min. Viola - potatoes for aloo paratha for mykid. I do not know about tupperware imitation but i have got them from only tupperware retailers and my 40 rs chai bowl (MW compatible) from foodworld has been with me for four years. I boil a bowl of chai for 10 min
