Pic 4: An example of a true experience

As you can see in the picture above, a bathroom sink was demonstrated complete with tap, mirror and also a tower hanger. You should also notice that the tiles are a part of the whole decor here too. We think this is a cool idea indeed.

Pic 5: Kitchen products were on exhibit too

A wide variety of products for kitchen were available. Some discounts were offered if bookings were made on the spot. We don’t have all the pictures but there were some real interesting concepts for maintaining your kitchen, vis-a-vis, storage spaces.

Pic 6 : Siemens had a huge stall. Picture happy people above

Only the stall was huge. Again goes to show the spending power of these home market segment companies. Oddly enough Siemens didn’t see to have lot of visitors. We personally did not enter the stall either. We know they are a huge popular brand in Germany but what they do in India is beyond us at the moment.

Pic 7: This is a miracle gadget. Read more in the post below

This is indeed something which we think is great. The aluminium strip that you see in the picture above is a power strip into which you can plug in as many sockets as you want. You would never ever, run out of sockets again. The picture just above shows that how this can useful in a kitchen. Interesting is it not?

Pic 8: A wide variety of kitchen sinks were on display

Again we are out of pictures here , but you get the general idea don’t you?

A few more pictures coming up in next post.

Pic 1: First look inside the exhibition

At first glance, the exhibition had a foreign touch to it. There was a very well planned floor layout and at most places, you never got the feeling of suffocation. This year’s show was organized in Chennai Trade centre which is really a top-notch exibition ground. I have not seen Pragiti Maidan in New Delhi, so this comparison may not be correct.

IO 2

Fig 2: Seen here is the RAK Ceramics booth. RAK Ceramics is based out of UAE.

A lot of vitrified tiles and ceramic related companies had huge stalls (translate that to lot of money ;) ) RAK ceramics’ stall was very impressive.

What was unique about some stalls was that they gave you a realistic feel of the product by placing it in a near day-to-day like scenario. So the wash basin is placed near a mirror. Also the basin is fitted with taps so that you get the real feel.

 IO 3

Pic 3: Seen above , lots of new looking basins to suit your bathroom

Ambiance was good at the show, and the people who shove unwanted brochures into your hands were actually less.

more on part 3………….

Inside Outside 2

Read the article about this show in local newspapers and mentally made a note of the same. Today I asked Williams if he would like to join me, and he said yes.

The journey was a treachrous one.  But when we reached the place finally the trip was really worth taking.

Renovation anyone?

August 23rd, 2007

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (No Ratings Yet)

Lately, lots of swanky new apartments have been coming up with the modern look & feel. Many of the older constructions (even the professionally built ones) are beginning to seem a bit tacky; even though they were probably top of line at the time of their construction.

And when it comes to the houses that were built 10 years back (like the one in which most of us grew up), there seems to be a lot of scope for improving their ambience. From the flooring to the painting, from the electrical switches that was used to the lighting, perhaps in some cases a few additional amenities in the bathroom or some new fancy woodwork to get that nice finish you were wanting all along; the options that people can go in for are manifold.

It would be nice to hear from people out there about their experiences in renovating their houses. Increasingly, lots of people are going to do this.

It is not just the older homes that need remodeling; even the houses that are only a couple of years old are refurbished. It depends on the home owner and their take on things. Some people renovate just for the change it gives to their homes. Some of the recent paint ads going on in the TV are based on this theme only.

Unfortunately in India, we still have the habit of expecting contractors to do this job for us. A far cry from the Western countries where this activity is mostly done by the home owners. Perhaps, this is also the reason why many of our homes don’t come up to our expectations. Guess the adage of ‘If you want to do it right, do it yourself’, applies here.
