“Aavaas” is a Sanskrit word which denotes “home”.

Aavaas was started with one purpose – To raise the standards on Indian homes. Today there exists a huge gap between a comfortable home and reality. Our take is that the four walls and ceiling just make the house. What turns it into a home is the character of people occupying it.

“A house is made of walls and beams; a home is built with love and dreams.”

It is hardly enough if we find a good location for our house. Most of the effort in terms of making it livable comes afterwards. We are sure most of us have had experiences that we might want to share with others on this front, so that the community as a whole benefits.

Why ”Aavaas”?

आवास

Many reasons prompted us to choose this name. We wanted to have a simple yet effective name to convey the central theme of this site – “home”. The root of the word is “aavaasa” which meant home in Sanskrit.

Great idea for a blog :) It’ll be really nice if you can guys can think of more more visually rich content. More images, perhaps even floorplans (try floorplanner.com) and invite your readers to submit photos of their home/decor/ideas etc at some point when your readership grows.
Damn…too many ideas for free eh ;) Ill get back to you guys for the royalty when your site hits reach 1000 a day :)

You have got to change the header image. Something more homely.

  3. Vivek | August 24th, 2007 at 9:43 pm

    Hi Krishashok

At the moment we are focussing on the content. Messing the header image would not be a priority now. Besides it is tough to fit the same dimension with an image without compromising on the resolution/clarity.

If you think there is an image we could use, let us know and we would be glad to comply.

The header’s the first thing any reader looks at. Usability studies prove that :) Ill look around for something suitable. Wordpress headers are pretty easy to come by

Hey, Nice work. Good concept. Will surely prove fruitful. Good luck. btw, i think the right pane with all the links can do with darker colors. Quite difficult to read. (or is it just my eye?? ;) )

  14. Vivek | October 16th, 2007 at 9:48 pm

    @ Vibushan

thank you for your kind words. The right pane is a bit light. We will try and change the theme to make it darker. Keep reading and spread the word.
