Panasonic KX-TG1032S Cordless Phone

We first spoke about this phone briefly here. Today we give you the details about the model. The phone was purchased in the US and hence has the obvious disadvantage that it operates at 110V only. So we use a small 220V-110V converter for the unit. The cost of the unit was approximately $70 in the US. This would work out to around 3000 rupees in Indian money. A handset with similar features would cost much more in India for sure.

The unit has two base units. One is the master unit which is shown on the left in the picture below. The other one is only for charging and can be kept on the first floor or so. The two units can be used as intercom also.

  • Expandable Digital Cordless DECT 6.0 Phone System with Extended Talk Time
  • Reduced Interference
  • Hearing Aid Compatibility (HAC)
  • All-Digital Answering System and 2 Handsets

From the website:

Long Range, Excellent Clarity and Greater Security
Our latest DECT 6.0 (Digital Enhanced Cordless Communications) technology lets you move freely around your home with long range and amazingly clear sound. It also assures greater protection against eavesdropping for all your calls. Operating in the 1.9GHz frequency range, your phone will not conflict with other wireless devices such as computer routers, wireless keyboards, microwave ovens and other common household devices.

Up to 6 Handsets with Just One Phone Jack
You can put handsets all over your house — in your kids’ rooms or even in the garage — without all the messy wiring or complicated setup. With our DECT 6.0 expandable phone systems, you don’t need a phone jack for each additional handset — just one for the base unit. So start expanding and forget about all your wiring worries.

All-Digital Answering System
This phone system is equipped with an all-digital answering system for quick, easy retrieval of crystal-clear messages. Message operation has never been easier, with up to 16 minutes of recording time, plus such features as a pre-recorded outgoing message, remote operation, Tollsaver, and skip-and-repeat. And don’t worry about losing your messages when the power goes out — they’re stored in flash memory so they’re unaffected by power failure or interruptions.

Put the Phone Down While You Talk
Having a handset speakerphone may not seem like such a big deal — until you have to call an automated phone system. By the time you press “2″ and return the phone to your ear, you missed half the next option! And when they put you on hold for 10 minutes, do you really need to hold the phone? Not with a handset speakerphone. Just listen along and press a button or pick up when it’s convenient. You’ll think up other great uses, like letting Grandma and Grandpa listen to their new grandchild at the same time, painting your nails as you talk to your best friend, or just being able to set the phone down while you talk.

See Who’s Calling, Even If You’re Already on the Phone
We’ve all become accustomed to Caller ID and its ability to let us see who’s calling before we answer the phone. But what happens when you’re already on the phone and another call comes in on Call Waiting? Until now, you wouldn’t know who was beeping in unless you answered it. With Call Waiting Caller ID (1), you get the best of both worlds. So now when you get a beep, you can see who’s calling before you answer…but we’ll leave that decision up to you!

(this does not work in India. Atleast not in Chennai.)

Am so glad i landed on your website since I have been researching about the exact phone KX-TG1033S. I have couple of questions.
    - since the review was written in june, have you experienced any problems since then?
    - how much did the converter cost?
    - 2 years back, i took a panasonic phone to india, which worked well for a year and the battery died. Am not sure if it can be reused. How about this phone? Since you might have researched about this phone, i was wondering if you have read about this somewhere.

    Thanks

  2. Hi Pinky

    Where are you from?

We have no problems with the phone so far. Just that Indian still dont know the concept of answering machine!

The converter cost us 150 rupees in Chennai.

We had the exact same problem with our old phone. We needed to change the battery once in 2 months.

this phone however uses rechargeable AAA battery. It is easily available in stores.

  3. Pinky

Thanks Vivek for the reply. I live in US.. have one more question. When you say, the battery needs to be changed every 2 months, are you talking about the AAA battery?? How much would the rechargeables cost in india? Dont want my parents to go thru the hassle of buying batteries every other month…Just a small concern. Hope you answer my query..

  4. Hi Pinky

I was refering to my old phone and not the new Panasonic.

The new one has got a very good battery life. And yes, the AAA rechargeable batteries are available in most electronic stores in case you need them.

Sorry for the delay in response.

  5. Pinky

    Hey vivek,
Finally I got the phone…Yet to use it. Thanks for all your help.

    Vivek

Thanks for your review. I am thinking of purchasing a similar phone but have heard that the caller ID does not work in India at all. Is that correct?

Do you know if some kind of convertor is availble to make the caller id wrk there?

  9. Lakhwant

Hi guys! Just want to know if the phone you got from USa displayes the caller id. I have seen cordless phones from the USA that work in India but have problems with the caller id because of differenet protocols used in India (DTMF) and the US (FSK).

I am planning to buy Panasonic KX-TG4321B from the USA for my parents but I am not sure if caller Id works in India for this phone. Any experience???… Please do share with me.

  10. Pinky

Hi AG and Lakhwant..Caller ID doesnt work in india for sure..the phones which i took seems to work fine..Agree with vivek, answering machine is a sheer waste…My phone has not played a single VM since its inception at my home..Ppl wait to hear the VM greeting only to hang up :D ..
Even am on a lookout for a caller Id which would go well with the phone..

  11. Lakhwant

    Thanks Pinky!
I searched about the caller ID thing on google. I found people sharing that there are some China made converters (DTMF to FSK converter) that can be plugged between phone and telephone line. It will convert the incoming caller detail (in DTMF format) from Indian exchange into caller detail in FSK format before it is displayed on phone screen. This way the caller ID thing in phones from the USA work in India. As I am in the US as of now..will be returning on 20th December, I will look for this thing in India. But as of now I think I will purchase cordless from the US. If you find any information regarding this converter then do share!

  17. Ramakrishna

    Hi Everyone,

I just came form US and got couple of Cordless phones and found that caller ID doesnt work as the format for India is Different and google about it and found out a converter. I went to local telephone shops and enquired about it and got it for 450Rs and it works perfect. It looks exactly as Broad Band Slpitter. Guys who ever got phones form US dont buy the Voltage converter its a total waste of money. Instead of that take the US adapter to a local electronic shop and get an adapter with the same voltage and same pin which will cost you around 200, In that way you can save 150 with out buying that BULKY voltage converter and it looks decent with out that BULKY thing. Any questions .let me know i’m happy to assist you

Hi friends, Thank you very much for posting information.

now i left my plan beacuse of not full compactible in india
    and buying from India..

  21. USA Indian

I have KX-TGA1018 (3 handset) in the US and it works fine, good quality.
Bought one for Chennai this year and except for Caller ID working ok for now. Bought 220 to 110 adapter for Rs 160 and it is not bulky as it used to be a couple of years ago. I did not want to mess with a local adapter or removing the pin from existing adapter and putting on Indian one as I doubt the quality of the Indian adapters.

  22. Great Website! I wondered if I could site some of your site and use a handful of points for a school assignment. Please let me know through email whether that would be fine. Thanks

    @Ramakrishna,

Could you please let me know which converter you bought? Are you able to see the name of the caller and his number, when a call comes in, after using the converter?
