I too have the same problem with Philips DVP3166 DVD Player.
It all of a sudden stopped playing DVD format (any DVD you insert frustratingly shows “Loading” for a long time (3 mins) and ends up with “No Disc” message.

It plays VCD 2.0 format nicely

I bought one philips DVD in 2005. Now it says ‘no disc’ when I play any dvd.But it plays cds. What should I do?

@Ashwin – I am no expert in this but i guess it is something to do with your player’s Lens(or) the LASER. Have you tried any CDs(not DVDs)? If your player plays CDs without any hiccup then it could be related to LASER beam problem. If even CDs are failing to play then you might need to get your player to a nearest Philips service center or for that matter any electronic repair shop for checkup on Lens as well as rest of the circuit. Also make sure the DVDs/CDs you are trying are not coasted.

@Bajaj – my problem is, the player abruptly stopped playing DVDs. It now displays a loooooong ‘Loading’ message and ends with a ‘No disk’ error. Any thoughts on this ?

@Ashwin – I too have the same DVP 3166 as you are. Unfortunately, Philips has never released a firmware update for this model. Even the Modded firmwares are not available for this model. Default interface in this model simply SUCKS(for both Video and audio files) and desperately needs an update.
