I am from bangalore, I am planning to buy a dvd player. My budget is around 5k. I want HDMI and USB features in it and also all other features which other DVD players have. Also I am wondering if a inbuilt Amplifier is necessary ? Please comment

Now Philips DVD Players cost is at INR 2600/- ..
LG DVD player cost, what they mentioned in LG show room is INR 3200/- and above, and it is about INR 2750/- at Multi brand dealers. I was shocked. For any product, analysis is required with patience. Enquire at Multi brand show dealers, and select the best model. Simillarly Philips DVD players cost is around INR 2600/- and warranty 1year [ 6 months + Diwali offer 6Months warranty ]. And for Philips DVD players are with some good features too. USB port support, etc. and One traveller bag free!!! from PHILIPS company.
Not only for DVD players, for any item before purchasing, if the cost of the item is high, just enquire in more than one shop/dealer, and also discuss with friends/collegues/neighbours/relatives/… who are aware of the cost or market knowledge and then buy. Without doing Analysis [ comparisions of prices], if any one buy the product, later they will feel like oh! I missed out the offer, oh! I did mistake.
So instead of feeling like, I did mistake or I am not aware of this, best thing is that, doing analysis.
Just by opening mouth with the friends/collegues/… we will know lot of information and their experience about the things.
Best example, for January 1st, and Sankranthi festival, most of the companies will give so many offers.. if it is world cup season instead of 1 year warranty some companies may give 4 years warranty. In this way every mistake/fault has alert for the future steps..

I am planning to buy a DVD player.I was confused between sony, LG, Philips. But after reading this blog i felt going for Philips 3166 is a gud idea.

I have purchased the philips DVP 3166 . It seems to work pretty well. But there is one problem. It did not detect my USB external Hardrive. I have a 80 GB hardrive and a 2 GB pen drive. It detects the 2 GB hardrive but when I connect 80 G hard drive.. there is no response. I have tried with both partiontion NTFS and FAT32.

(1) Cannot automatically jump from one folder to another while playing.
(2) No easy volume control + mute
(3) Doens’nt play some of the high resolution videos & exits the player abruptly.
(4) No firmware upgrades available.
(5) Lots of problems with high capacity pendrive (USB greater than 4GB) and inability to play from external harddisks.
(6) Doenst navigates and shows the active playing song or movie in the directory view.
(7) No external display to show the content it plays. (You should need a TV to operate it !!… Bullshit, it doenst even auto detect and play the disc or pendrive it detects!…

I have recently purchased a philips dvp3256. The config is same as the 3166, but 3166 has usb 1.0 port, while this has usb 2.0. It plays back all divx,xvid encoded files perfectly. A FAT32 partitioned drive shud work, hwever, if ther r too many folders in the drive, the player might give up on it:)
HI all..firstly, Vivek, kudos for a great site – this is certainly quite unique. I stumbled on this while I was doing a search for info on DVD players.
Now, am choosing between Philips DVP 3266 and Sony NS 728. Would appreciate if you could guide me out of this quandry! Would be great if you could provide me with “in general” feedback as well as on the following:
1. Does the Philips player also detect and play from external hard-drives?
2. Does the Sony play all formats (irrespective of region) well?
3. Which one plays bad quality CDs/DVDs better?

dvp3126 doesn’t have usb support & u cn get it in the market for around Rs.2100. The DVD home theater system also costs around Rs.5000 so it is advisable to buy them separately from the market. You could also possibly get a much better deal and check out the usb players too.

In the manuals of all DVD players those support USB drives, its written that their players will support only USB drives with small capacities but not very massive storage like USB hard drives.

I want to purchase a DVD Karaoke player with ‘Pitch control’ option. This ‘pitch control’ option is useful when we are singing along using karaoke CD’s & we want to sing at a lower pitch……….singing Himesh Reshammiya & the other newer songs is highly problemmatic at such high pitches.
Any help on this would be appreciated.
Even help if you know of any MP3 player or Mobile Phone which has the ‘pitch control’ option.
