You must be wondering why the address bar on your browser reads “aavaas.com” instead of “htoh.wordpress.com”.

We have adopted a new name for our site. “AAVAAS”. No more remembering a cryptic URL like “htoh…..”. The name is easy to remember.

Please update your bookmarks on your computer and other bookmarking services that you may have subscribed to.

आवास

“Aavaas” is a Sanskrit word which denotes “house” or “home”.

During this migration you may experience some issues in browsing the site. We regret this inconvenience.

Most of the links would work as is. The only change we anticipate is in the RSS feeds.

We request you to update your RSS subscription to:

We will continue to test and rectify issues over the weekend. This is the reason why we chose Friday evening (IST) to do this change.

Nothing else changes. Our articles will continue to flow in as usual.

Have a fabulous weekend..

Cheers

Do tell us if you like the name. We thought of quite a few options but there was always something missing. Here are a few other candidate names we looked at:
    homeszindia.com
    shapemyhome.com
    homefromhouse.com
    4wallsandroof.com

Would really value your feedback on this…

In India a house is called Veedu, Manai, Illu, Illam, Kutil, Maaligai, Mahal, Awaaz etc…Kutil (hut) would have been my preference as it can fit into any language in India.

    Dear Sudarsan

We tried kutil too. unfortunately kutil.com was already booked :(

aalaya, parpidam, ghar, makaan, veedu, mahal, illam etc. were all booked too. We even tried some English slang words - digs, diggings, den, homesz, nest, house, abode, condo, sanctum etc.. to no avail though..

    Dear Vivek,
    Dear William,
Have you given a shot at trying hyphenated double names for the domain name. Eg. http://www.indiaianhomes.com or http://www.kutil2mahal.com.

    @ anonymous

Your first suggestion of “www.indiaianhomes.com” is available currently.

But I think you meant “www.indianhomes.com”, which is not.

As for the second suggestion “kutil2mahal.com” , it is still available.
