Vitrified Tile – What is it exactly?
I am sure, most of us would have heard this term a lot these days. Vitrified tiles. So what doed this exactly convey to people who wish to have them in their homes?
This post hopes to convey some details on “Vitrified tiles”
Conventional flooring is done with either grey or white mosaic. People who could afford it went in for granite or even marble. Today the buzz word seems to be vitrified tiles.

What is vitrified tile
Vitrified tile is a tile which has been processed in such a way that it has very very low porosity (and water absorption) which make it stain resistant and very strong.
Is vitrified tile better than marble or granite?
Vitrified Tiles have far superior properties compared to marble or natural granite because being a manufactured product their quality is controlled whereas in naturally occurring marble and granite good quality is just a coincidence. Vitrified tiles posses much better mechanical strength, scratch resistance, resistance to acids, alkalies and chemicals, resistance to staining etc compared to marble or natural granite.
Marble has a relatively lower abrasion resistance compared to vitrified tiles. It is calcium carbonate which is strongly attached by Hydrochloric acid which is commonly used in toilet & floor cleaning. It yellows over extended time duration whereas vitrified tiles retain their colour for decades.
Polished natural granite shows several surface defects and a good quality is just a matter of chance whereas vitrified tiles are guaranteed for consistent good quality. Marble laying is very cumberrsom and time consuming whereas vitrified tiles may be laid in a matter of hours and put to use after 48 hours.

What needs to be studied here is the cost factor. Apparently the Vitrified tiles seem to have an advantage and also durability to command a higher price.
But are we willing to shell that extra money for aesthetics and maintenance sake is the million dollar question.
Another point to consider is where people who would like to buy an apartment can actually tell the builder to use these tiles over conventional flooring techniques.

I HAD PURCHASED ORACLE MARBITO PREMIUM TILES IN THE BELIEF THAT THEY WERE AN IS0 9001. AFTER LAYING THE TILES IT IS FOUND THAT THE TILES ARE NOT STRAIGHT AND ARE 2ND QUALITY IN PREMIUM QALITY LABEL.
THE COMPANY HAS WASHED HANDS OFF THIS. I PLAN TO FILE ACRIMINAL CASE AGAINST THE OFFICIALS.
THIS TILE COMPANY SHOULD BE BANNED AND BLACK LISTED IN INDIA. POOR CITIZENS OF INDIA SHOULD NOT SUFFER FROM SUCH CORRUPT COMPANIES. I HAVE ALSO APPROACHED THE QUALITY CONTROL OF INDIA TO CANCEL THEIR ACCREDITATION.

@ Sanjay – Please don’t buy vitrified tiles from any new born companies. There is not much quality difference in marble and granite, as it is natural made things. But in name of vitrified tiles, ppl are selling crap. Only few ppl have sound understanding of vitrified tiles, who are associated with this line, rest just go on the looks initially. You can buy vitrified tiles of RAK, NITCO, ASIAN or if you wanna go for lower range you can buy Western Marbo. I am a builder and bought almost all companies tiles in bulk. These companies are decent.
We need to understand the quality of vitrified tiles first. Few companies are using a good quality raw materials. High Plastic clay is very useful for good quality vitrified tiles. Only few companies are using Ukraine Clay which is very good for vitrified clay and gives good quality. We should identify such standard companies before purchase of Vitrified Tiles.

HOW TO REMOVE THE STAIN FROM VITRIFIED TILES
It should be clearly born in mind that vitrified tiles can’t be polished like marble/kota.
So after 10 years,there will be so many scratches over the surface that you will have to think to replace these tiles.Oterwise also, there would be so may other options in the market to force you to replace the 10 years old boring tiles.

Win-tel is a local brand. They are doing jobwork for Kajaria. IF manufacturer will use good high plastic clay in vitrifed tiles, the tile quality will be good. Dont go for only brand,as some branded company not manufacturing themselves but gives job work to local company. If you are looking for good quality tiles,pay a little more and choose from Simpolo, Zealtop. Sorento, Asian, Oasis, Ramoji, etc….

Vitrified tiles in our apartment are cracking even after nearly two years of laying. Is it because of poor quality of laying or poor quality of tiles? Many people in our apartment are facing this problem. Our builder is a renowned company with many awards.

How are the chinese vitrified tiles in terms of quality. I asked the dealer about the brand name, but he just said that they are imported and that’s it. Look-wise they seem good, but not sure about reliability.

For Bangalore climate which is a better floorign vitrified tiles or granite? (especially west bangalore – in apartments where limited sun light possibility – marble is very cold and caused pain and chills). Is it advisable to go with granite?

Some of tile manufacturer produce poor quality and selling at lower price to attract business. Some industries like VITA, Lorenzo,Shreeji are not using quality raw materials to product high strength vitrified tiles.
Like Simpolo, Sorento,Zealtop are very good quality producer for vitrified and DC vitrified also. Dont compromise with quality and pay some more.
why use people vitrified tile???????

It is the inherent property of the Vitrified tile which can observe the properties like bend and variation in size and thickness. There is a tolerence of variation. It should be within limits. It is in the hands of the tile layer also to overcome these kind of problems. So requesting all of u to choose skilled layers and not compromise in paying more. Ofcourse there are some company distributors which are not showing intrest in getting Premium Quality material and drawing only Standard Quality material which have price variation. Choose the distributors carefully.
